FAQs

Q:

WHO ARE WE?

A:

We are Home Grown Homeschoolers Inc., a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization based in Cypress, Texas. We are a support group for African American homeschooling parents in the Northwest Houston, Cypress, and Katy area. Families reach out to us for advice and information all across Harris County. We provide a supplemental co-op for socialization, learning and fun. We have weekly field trips, events, sustainable farming and gardening, Teen outings, Mom and Dad's night out, Family road trips and domestic and international travel. The majority of what we do is done by donations and sponsorships.

Q:

WHY AN AFRICAN AMERICAN CO-OP?

A:

As a predominately African American homeschool group, we want our families to know that they are not in this alone, that there is a place where they can belong. Having a village of like minded individuals is definitely necessary and that is why it was established. Black families are often underserved in other homeschooling groups.  Our homeschool group removes the exclusion that many African American children feel, being a minority in other homeschooling groups. Homeschool groups are an important part of the homeschool journey; helping children create connections through socialization and positive experiences.  Every child deserves to have a safe and inviting space to learn and socialize.  Every family should have access to support and this is why we have created that space for our underserved African American children.

Q:

WHY DO WE REQUIRE REGISTRATION FEES?

A:

Home Grown Homeschoolers has operational fees that are incurred monthly, yearly or one time and as a collective group it is necessary for all to contribute to keep us operating. Also, as a Non-profit 501(c)3 as we recieve donations and sponsorships everyone will benefit from it whether you participate in co-op or just field trips. Simply put, as you invest in us, you invest in our children.

Q:

DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL CO-OP?

A:

No. During the beginning of the Pandemic 2020 our co-op went virtual. It was very unfulfilling for all. As a homeschool group socialization is very important for proper development. We are meeting face to face until further notice from our local government. Covid policies and practices are in place to protect all the best we can. If it is ever required by our local government to no longer meet in person we will provide virtual co-op at that time.

Q:

CAN I DROP MY CHILD/REN OFF AT CO-OP?

A:

No, we are a parent involved co-op and participation for all parents is required. Also, you must look out for the safety and well being of your child while at co-op or any outing or event.

Q:

IS THERE AN OPTION FOR JUST EVENTS AND FIELD TRIPS?

A:

This is a collaborative, parent involved group.  Participation and commitment is required so we no longer offer an option for just field trips or events. We want to build relationships and that is not realistic when you only show up periodically for field trips or events.

Q:

WHAT ARE WE DOING TO PREVENT COVID AND THE FLU?

A:

It is an expected collaborative effort to keep all members healthy and from spreading any illness. We require all participants to wear mask at any indoor co-op/event, we take temperatures, disinfect our space, wash hands frequently, keep hand sanitizer available, ask and remind to cover coughs and sneezes properly and we have a Covid policy that is asked of all to follow.

Q:

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS AND ARE THEY GROUPED?

A:

HGH accepts children 8-18 years old. We provide accomodations to younger siblings only if they have an older sibling participating in the group.

They are grouped by age:

Cubs ( any younger sibling attending with older siblings)

8-10 yrs Tigers
